I find it hard to believe the wood’s witch was 100% right about this criteria, because if she could see the future accurately - she could have avoided the tragedy at Summerhall - that resulted in the death of Jenny & Prince Duncan. If that were true, only Jon Snow & Daenerys Targaryen would be the living contenders for Azor Ahai. The one argument against Arya being Azor Ahai would be - that the wood’s witch predicted Azor Ahai would come of Aery’s and Rhaella’s line. It was during a re-read of Storm of Swords that I first noticed a foreshadowing. The snow, winter, cold, ice could refer to any Stark. But I believe seeing Jon’s face is different from seeing ‘snow’. Melisandre probably suspects Jon to be Azor Ahai. When Melisandre prays for Azor Ahai, all she sees in the flames is ‘snow’. Jon: The third most important candidate is Jon Snow. Master Aemon suspects that the sword he wields is not the true Lightbringer. And prophecies never work when they are forced. Stannis: The other candidate Stannis Baratheon seems to be a case of a prophecy being forced into be true. Where is her legendary sword ‘Lightbringer’? Could she even wield a sword like ‘Lightbringer’? Could she forge it? Dany seems to be the biggest red herring. Later Illyrio reflects how Dany was reborn in ‘blood & fire’ on the Dothraki sea.ĭany: Now if Dany did hatch those eggs out of stone, there are still some parts of the prophecy that fall short when you think of her as a contender. According to the wood’s witch, the Prince who was Promised would descend from Aery’s and Rhaella’s line. She is also believed to have descended from Aery’s and Rhaella’s line. But this hint makes us look out for all the possible female candidates who could fulfil this prophecy.ĭany: On the Dothraki sea, Dany does seem to have hatched dragon eggs from a funeral pyre (smoke?). Most of us, including me believed this prophecy had to be fulfilled by a man. So Master Aemon believes that Azor Ahai need not be male, it could be a female. With Master Aemon believing that Azor Ahai/Prince who was Promised could be a ‘Princess’ and not a ‘Prince’. But besides him being a smith, there seems to be no other foreshadowing of him being Azor Ahai.ĭany: The first and most likely candidate for Azor Ahai has been Dany. because Gendry is a smith, and so he could forge Lightbringer. Some even argue that Gendry could be Azor Ahai. The existing candidates for Azor Ahai seem to be the following characters: And by what he said - ‘He who was promised’ is the Westerosi translation of ‘Azor Ahai’. In an interview, GRRM remarked that Azor Ahai was an eastern prophecy. I believe the character that turns into Azor Ahai is someone we already know.

That makes it so they simultaneously never come true or arguably always come true.Who is Azor Ahai is the most debated question for readers. Martin"s prophecies is that there are endless ways to interpret them. Certainly, Drogon is a fiery weapon that ultimately melted the Iron Throne, making the "darkness" (represented through Daenerys) of corrupt power flee before him. Still others see Drogon as "Lightbringer," the legendary fiery sword that Azor Ahai was supposed to forge. Xem thêm: Trường Giang Sinh Năm Nào - Tiểu Sử Diễn Viên Hài Trường Giang After plunging his sword into her heart, he at last defeated the "monster" of the Iron Throne, bringing forth an era of peace and ending the years of war and darkness we watched take place on the show. So then he moved onto Cersei, and still another threat persisted.įinally, like Azor Ahai and Nissa Nissa, Jon realized that in order to truly beat back the darkness, he"d need to kill the woman he loved - Daenerys. First it was the White Walkers, but still another threat persisted. The TL DR basically comes down to: Jon tried three times to make a "sword" (or, in other words, to bring about a victory) to end the darkness. All we have to do is recontextualize it around the idea that the "darkness" Azor Ahai saves the world from isn"t the White Walkers, but rather the potential reign of terror from Mad Queen Daenerys going on to conquer the entire world. One redditor made the very well-thought out argument for how practically every aspect of the Azor Ahai prophecy played out in the finale. But as we mentioned last week before episode 6 aired, there was already talk among theorizers about how Jon could still be the Prince Who Was Promised through a reinterpretation of the prophecy. Sure, the prophecy didn"t exactly play out like we or the characters on the show might"ve expected. But after the finale, fans aren"t so sure anymore. the Prince Who Was Promised, seemingly turned out to be irrelevant.

One of the biggest twists of Season 8 is that one of the most oft-debated prophecies, Azor Ahai, a.k.a.
